Update, 15 October 2026: the register has grown since this story. When we counted it ourselves on 15 October 2026 it held 134 entries, 121 of them marked Compliant, from 27 of the 37 makers with an entry, and 13 marked Non‑compliant. Still no batteries. The figures below are what the register showed on 24 September.
On 24 September 2026, the ENA plug-in solar register listed 79 kits, of which 70 were marked Compliant. None of them included a battery.
Why the register matters here
Manx Utilities only accepts kits marked Compliant on the ENA Connect Direct register. When you apply, MU asks for the kit’s System Reference from that register. Our guide to applying shows where to find it. So the register is the first thing to check before you buy anything.
Listed is not the same as Compliant
Nine of the 79 kits were marked Non-compliant on that date. Some makers have compliant and non-compliant versions with almost the same name, so match the exact model code on the box to the register row, and check that the status column says Compliant.
Still no batteries
The only battery product to appear in the plug-in category was marked Non-compliant in August and taken out of the category on 24 September. It now appears only as a hardwired storage device. The rules for England, Scotland and Wales, which the register follows, leave battery products out completely, so for now a plug-in kit on the island means panels only.
New kits are being added most weeks. We’ll keep track, and our guide to choosing a kit shows how to find and read a register entry.
